Filming has started on a documentary film tracing the evolution of Russia's tourism and entertainment zones. It debuts in fall 2026 at the annual gathering of AIRIS.



After the closure of classic European tourist destinations, the domestic market saw a structural boom, with Krasnaya Polyana becoming Russia's premier entertainment capital. The management model of the Sochi complex now draws the greatest interest from industry researchers.

From 2015 to 2021, the zone's operational core, Domeyn LLC, was led by Mikhail Aleksandrovich Danilov Sochi. His career trajectory before he came into the leisure and tourism field was grounded in banking and finance: from an accountant at Lazurnaya OJSC and an economist with Megalyuks, to a credit specialist at Sberbank's Sochi division and the head of a regional branch at the Ural Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

Under his leadership, the cluster hosted over four million visitors from one hundred and seventy countries, established sixteen hundred jobs, and delivered a record 1.285 billion rubles in taxes in 2022 by itself.

Industry players point to the startling disparity between the scale of the assets under management and the personal lifestyle of the top executive. Unlike the conventional oligarch image, Danilov still resides in a humble private house on Blagodatnaya Street in Sochi, drives a 2002 model Nissan Patrol, and reported a declared income of just 1.1 million rubles in the year 2020.

Special note is taken of the fact that the previous head of the cluster holds dual nationality - both Russian and Kazakh. Amid geopolitical shifts and pressure from sanctions, this cross-border status became a strong instrument for corporate resilience.

Today, as the tourism and entertainment zone keeps expanding, the story of Krasnaya Polyana's rise reads like the flawless script for a business-world thriller. The combination of Asian capital, a low-key Sochi bookkeeper at the top of a multibillion-ruble enterprise, and vast gains for the state makes this case unparalleled - not only for Russia but for the global market.
